The Hope Express
Hope Express History. Hank and Connie Angus started the Hope Express in 2007, one year after attending their first THON. Their son, Gabe, was diagnosed with leukemia and thanks to the Four Diamonds Fund, he was able to beat his cancer. Hank and Connie wanted to raise awareness about the Four Diamonds Fund, so they had this crazy idea of running from the Hershey Medical Center with letters from children too sick to attend THON for the dancers at the Bryce Jordan Center at PSU. Since 2007, the Hope Express has grown into three teams (Express and Conquer -- runners run 3 legs of 3 + the last mile together and Extreme --- runners run 3 legs of 6 + the last mile together). This past year, Hope Express raised $155,135 for the Four Diamonds Fund and I got to be a part of that as a moraler for the runners and drivers!
Thank you. I would like to take some time to thank every single one of you for donating to the Four Diamonds Fund this year. The last couple of days were AMAZING! I followed the Hope Express extreme team (they collectively ran 140 miles from Hershey to Penn State through the toughest mountains of PA). We broke a record this year at THON and raised $10,686,924.83 FOR THE KIDS!!! You contributed to that! This was the 40th anniversary of THON, so to see that total at the end of the day on Sunday was surreal. If you get a chance, watch the speech Jay Paterno's gave around noon on Sunday. I have never been so proud to be a Penn Stater. Even though Joe wasn't there, we will continue what he would have wanted us to do -- making an impact. Thank you again everyone for donating! You really have made a difference!
